WOW! Enjoy! Now all you need is the blonde in the skimpy bikini and snorkel gear.

No skimpy bikini last one still owes me $1000s. I have a problem with the rudder Skeg gudgeon as it has about 5mm play. It's fine once underway but turning the wheel in the dock it's clunking. I will need to slip and remove and have it machined and bushed I'm thinking. No time for bikinis yet. Plus I have another Icon going to market!

Icon 2 is going to get a bit of a make over , the teak cockpit will be ground back and stained in jarrah red stain. Someone recently has done a slap dash oil job so I feel I'm up for some challenge.
Has anyone replaced a worn lower Skeg gudgeon? there's about 5mm play and looking into the best way to fix it. Seems ok once underway but in the marina or at anchorage it's loose .

Well done Southace that is sublime.

For the teak - jarrah red stain? cripes where does this idea come from? If you are going to go back to bare teak why not use a proper teak finish? eg as below - if you add a jarrah red stain to the teak surely it will become blotchy with age whereas the below 2 products would be able to be re-coated regularly with no blotches?..............I realise they are not Aust products so would also call Feast Watson and Norglass to see if they had a suitable bare teak product. Not a stain.

For the play in the lower skeg gudgeon I would communicate with Bluewater on an up to date material to use as a replacement.........

If they cannot advise then would try Vesco - am sure they will be able to supply a suitable long life polymer material........

Hate the weathered teak look. Trust me I have been scrubbing. It for Ritchie prawn peelers for years on there white boats. What is wrong with red jarrah look and highly polished stainless steel. Personal choice I guess. I feel it looks more modern and more durable in red stain.
Im going to chat with the builder again tomorrow and see if I can get the engineering plans as he informed me the original engineer has passed. I may go to Newcastle for the repair if that's feasible.

Current yacht had teak toe rail capping. Was starting to crack and looked old and dull. Coat with jarrah stain looks good and lasts for at least two years before it wears. What blotching you talking about?

Ok, have 35 year old jarrah furniture with label still on it's inside "Built by member of WA Guild of Furniture Manufacturers"...............which I assume is this now..........my furniture still looks brand new but it is indoors..............jarrah or huon pine or Australian red cedar which is better........don't answer it obviously depends on what you are using it for as regards strength grade and cost..............

For sure getting the original builder on the case is the best plan A - sorry that the original engineer has passed - Bluewater surely would have other personnel or sub-contract consultant engineers on their books to give you the advice and details you need.
If this doesn't work I am sure that Vesco would be able to sort it, either internally or with sub-contract external qualified people.

Southace, you may not want to fork out more cash, or you may not like the concept, but Bluewater have responded to owner requests and designed and now market a hard dodger for the 420 which covers everything back to the transom at standing headroom and plenty of visibility. Check it out maybe by googling 'Bluewater 420 hard dodger'

I have seen that. Na I don't think I will take that path although it would be a nice addition. I'm going to go go all clears in the cockpit. Which are already about 80% done.
