sorry for the naive question - but would a Axxis 1020 be appropriate for me to start winging with a fanatic 6'7 sky sup (90kg)...and any benefits over the default 2000 fanatic aero foil?

Kind of depends on the wind strength you want to be able to foil but the 1020 would work perfectly on the Fanatic. The 1020 will get you up as early as almost anything out there. The Fanatic is also a great light wind foil but the access to more wing/mast/fuselage and stab options make the Axis hard to beat. As you improve, you could trade in and love the step up in performance of the Axis high aspect wings.

I primarily kite foil and wing foil on the the AXIS 1020.

The 1020 is a steady as she goes foil. You can spice up the beast quite cheaply by changing the rear stab.

I started with the 1020/440, then 1020/400, then 1020/370 and now 1020/460 HA.

It has been quite amazing the difference in turning and carving performance.

A slightly more expensive route is to shorten the fuselage. This also brings some dramatic improvements in turning and carving.

Making flat days fun. If you're in a place that has almost no waves, this foil is going to have you on the water way more often.

so for a Axis 1020 - at 90kg learner with say a 5m or 6m Echo (10-18kts) , should i go the 440 rear?
And do you recommend the 75cm mast and standard (76.5cm) fuselage?

I run the AXIS 1020 with 75cm mast and the 440 rear works really well. I have been experimenting with the rears and getting smaller.

The learner should be fine on the 5m wing in 15 knots and will drop down to 12 knots as their skill improve.

Does anyone use the 90 mast ? More popular for kitefoil I know but curious to know whether it helps in wingding as well to give you more time to adjust ?

Anyone get on the 760 or 860 yet?

I have 2 sessions now on the new 860 and already am absolutely loving it. Day 1, I ran w/ the short fuse/460 straight stab and although it was super fast- it felt pretty sketchy on the take-offs. Conditions were a little bumpy- and sure I could adjust w/ more time but switched out the stab for the time being to adjust to the new wing. Today was day 2, chest high, glassy, I ran w/ the 390 stab. Loved the combo. Carves quick turns like a dream- and............ the last few of the session I rode a few all the way to the inside and pumped all the way back out- not the norm for me. I am not fully adjusted to the wing, but I am so psyched. At 90kg, this will for sure be my daily driver. Won't be able to get on the water for a couple days- am frothing to get on it again.

90cm mast particularly useful for coastal conditions - easy to accidentally breach on a shorter mast when winging when going out into swell and also dropping into a wave or swell. Makes a difference. In flat water you could probably use any length mast

Those are some really nice looking wings! That 860 has my name all over it, it would be a perfect sup surf wing for good waves

Is the S860 too small for 85+ kg supfoilers in small to medium waves?
Larry is 64 kg!

Axis website:
The 860 can also be high performance SUP wing for bigger days or lighter riders. And if it gets really windy, the 860 can be the surfiest Wing Surfing wing you have ever used.

I'm 77 kg and I can use the 860 in small to medium waves but they have to be clean. If it's sloppy crumbling stuff then I prefer a traditional or HA wing. 860 loves to carve so if it's a day that I'm going to be riding the wave and not worrying about pumping back out on my sup then the 860 is super fun. Fast bottom turns to top turns, it'll whip itself into any direction with ease. It has good pump to hit other sections but not like the 1010 that'll let you pump out 100 meters to catch swell lines.
For winging, I found this foil turned so tight and fast that I slowed it down a little with the 390 rear.

So the 860 doesn't have a pump like the 1010 as I expected, does it pump more like the 900?

And what rear did you use before the 390?

And with which wing is the 860 comparable with respect to lift when winging?

I'm 90 kg on a prone board. Have only a few sessions on the 860, but really loving it so far. I've found that in general- I actually pump it a little better than I do the 900. Although the 900 is probably a better pumping wing for someone more advanced at that skill- the 860 is no slouch, has more low speed lift, so is more forgiving- I can bring it back up to speed/recover after slowing down. That said- predictably, the 900 surfs, glides and pumps at higher top end speeds and once up and going- the 900 pumps with more forward projection. What I have found with the 860 is, when surfing, I utilize turning to carry/pick up speed rather than pumps.

I've not tried the 860 on SUP and although hoping to- have yet to wing at all, but imagine that at my weight- it'll be a more medium surf wing on SUP- I'd grab something else for really small days. I'd also imagine that it would be great for winging, carving turns in the surf in moderate winds. Hope to find out sometime soon.

Our waves are not very fast so the 860 might be right for me and it is so nice to carry/pickup speed turning with a few pumps in between if necessary instead of just pumping like a maniac.... For the really small days I have the 1020 and next month the 1150. I like the 1020 a lot better since I paired it with a 460 stab.

I am also looking forward to try the 860 for winging, we have 99% onshore winds and even when its only 12-15 knots wind generated waves are a meter high and there is very little space between them.
I think a not so fast and good turning foil is what you need in these conditions!

Hello, would the 1010 wing be enough for a 80kg rider for dw (20knts - 30 knts) and winging (15knts - 20 knts)? I worry that the 1015 might be to big (too much leverage power), don't you think?

Hi Guys!

As a Swede with no possibility to test before buy, any advice for an old & heavy guy (48y / 200lbs) prior I press the order button?
Wingdinging and need something for light days, and more windy days (ocean riding on knee to chest high waves).

Looking at this combo:
Light wind - S1150+S390GAP
Windier days - S860+370

Probably need to sell the wifes SUP to fund it all so any pointers if I am on something is much apriciated

I'd go that combo with the ultra short fuselage but I've been using the 390 with the 860 and 370 with the 1150.

So the S390GAP stab might work well with both fronts=more of personal preferences/less nervous ride with the 390 vs 370?
(to save some $$)

Hey Joopthesurfer,

The Axis 101 is a pretty good Wing to consider.
It is alI I need in light wind with a 5.3m wing at 85kg. The 101 is fun to sup surf in waist high waves.

The rear wing changes the ride for sure so totally just preference for the rider. Like Baldy said, the 1010 is great also and can get you going in really light winds.

There's a lot of second hand 920 front wings on the market. Early easy lift and much cheaper to start winging with that which is what I did. You'll be scratching your first wing a lot.

What approx weight are you riding the 920 Alysum getting early easy lift and what wind strength?used the 920 supfoiling in waves pleasantly surprised with it,have not tried it winging yet but at 225lbs the 1020 hard to beat for a HW guess have to have a go on the 920 winging

I'm 80Kg. I will outgrow the 920 quickly for a HA wing, but it's been a very stable platform to learn on and I'll keep it for light wind days.

Hi Guys/fellow foilers! :)

Incase someone "newbie" as me reads this, some feedback from a beginner (92kg/191cm and 9 sessions in):
Got the Axis 1010/400/short fuse/75cm mast now, and was out in 8-14 knots.

No problem get the lift needed (Echo 7m) and get going in 8knots and having a BLAST!
VERY happy with the foil and all concerns i would not get going in "no wind" are now "gone with the wind" :D

Then in theory, you should get going in less wind on a 1020 or 1150 ......
