Sorry to chime in with a dumb question but the SPs and other gripless SUPs, what do you use for grip? Surf wax?

Most just buy an aftermarket pad. Genration sell them anyway, OAM do a sick one too. Some do a tailpad only and use Hexatraction. Few use wax.

GenRation boards are designed for the Pros to ride on the APP World Tour, and they prefer wax.
They sell their boards the way they ride them, so that buyers have the option set them up to their own preference.

The deck pads that GenRation sells are really good quality and comfortable

But, since I get multiple boards at a time, and I hate messy wax, I use aftermarket pads and do a "mix and match" application.

And I ONLY use Quobba fins on every board, regardless what fins they come with.

Here is a photo of my SP25 and the Genration pad that I installed on it. Very happy with this pad for weight, grip, and comfort though it is pricey.

@ STC & OJ ??
fair to say the genration & OAM pads are a lot more high performance (grippy) than the stock ones on Sunovas and other brands? On the few SUPs I've ridden I haven't been impressed with the stock pads.nowhere near grippy enough

I would say that the main deck area (white on my board) of the Genration pad is comparable in grip to Sunova and other brands while while being lighter in weight. The tail pad with arch bar and kicker (black on mine) is much gripper than other SUP pads I have used.

I used various surf pads on my last 3 pad-less SUP customs, see:
www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/Review/My-XMas--self-present--two-Gong-customs?page=1

My goal was to has as direct a feel as wax, and nearly as light.
The feel of 2mm pads is incredible in hollow sections.
So I applied different pads at different places.
It also has the benefit to know where you are by feel.

I think my best setup is the last one (on the Karmen 7'11").

PS: The grippiest tail pad is the Kelly Slater. It feels like you are planting your back foot on a nail board :-)

I have the full on sunova deck pad. Could use some hexatraction up front, as sometimes I slip off the front getting into waves.
