If only JJF could have finished one of his two first waves. He is on another level at the moment with those turns of his. So much power.

Edit - ADS did not even get a cheer when he lifted the trophy - I know its not a personality contest but jeepers !

JJ was pushing so hard, really too hard and needed to bank a score or two first and then go to work..

I think everyone was righting of the Brazilians in the bigger stuff, but for me i think they generally held their own, great event all round

Seems like ADS was a gracious winner who acknowledges JJF is the "best in the world"... Some laughs in the comments on Stab:

stabmag.com/news/adriano-de-souza-wins-the-2015-drug-aware-pro-margaret-river/

For example: random penguin fan • 3 hours ago

spent the final jizzing my pants to every JJF carve and pulling my hair out spitting and screaming at my mums macbook NO ADZ to every adriano de pooza piss weak wide stance safety turn. Was so clear who the better surfer was to everyone in the world, even de pooza. JJF is the bomb at comps cos he just doesnt go at 70%. N if he did i think everyones soul would die a little bit. Props to de pooza for his heat game tho and for landing intermediate end section turns which is pretty much what won it for him. Indeed.

Watched teh whole thing and still trying to work out how JJF lost

De Snozza did a couple of fair turns and then a pretty sweet floater on the end section
JJF to tow maasive hacks and then fell on teh end section

....suppose its just one of those days where the best surfing doesn't get rewarded

Did they have a comp for shorter singles? The Log Fest is still a goer, by the looks, but I guess you are referring to something else? Deus Bali updated their FB cover pic to this earlier today:

EDIT. And that led me here: deuscustoms.com/9ftandsingle/

I think they were worried Indo Ted was going to glass a single on to the nano and take all the prizes.
Still looks like a lot of fun.

More concerns for water clarity in Rio

This year alone, INEA tested the water in the area 29 times – and in 21 of those measurements the results came back negative. The last analysis, on April 27th, deemed the water inappropriate for swimmingT/surfing.

Rio ... (Cobra's local beachie )

"Kelly Slater, 11-time World Champion and current WSL No. 9, was in unparalleled rhythm in the shifting beachbreaks, threading barrels on both his forehand and backhand to collect the day’s high heat total of a 19.27 out of a possible 20."

Hard to even watch a whole heat. Highlights are good though.

Good to see RC make another heat. Given his opponent in the 3rd round is ADS it's hard to believe he he will have too many supporters on the beach

If he keeps pulling into pits like that 9.17 he will go a long way...ADS may be the exception to the rule "Brazzos go missing when it starts thumping"

Where did they get the jetski drivers from.
A bit different in skill Level to the Hawaiian water patrol it seems.

What's amazing is the commentators practically laughing about it. The ski driver is looking over his right shoulder looking for Joel not realising he has gone over the other side. Lucky that was not a very serious accident. JP should have been holding on - it almost looks like he was getting ready to bail and then got bailed. Can not believe they are not paddling out in that anyway before the 3rd round.

Yeah the lottery was well n truely in full swing in round 4. Still he has a reasonable chance of making it one more round. I am just stoked for him to make a few heats. His confidence is growing all the time. He seems to love heavy pits.

Wow - he made it through Round 5 into the quarters against FT - the bloke he knocked off last time round. Unreal RC.
