7'4" Joel Fitzgerald sea Gypsy, it was a long time coming and now it's a sneaky surf at a very quiet spot
Love the Sepia colour look, makes it look like it's already aged in the sun and gives it a bit of a nostalgic appeal.
Hope the sneaky goes down ok if you are living in a lock down town.
Notice you got Futures side boxes, are they 1/2 or 3/4?
Tried to upload a photo and it ended up sideways so spun it around prior to selecting then it showed up sideways the other way- wtf is that? Anyone know what the go is?

Yeah it does appear that way on here, it's a burnt orange with volan so it gives it a different look which I love. 3/4 futures but really want to come to terms with single to start with.
7'2" Russ Short Bonzer, thing of beauty, that ive picked up since i was here last.
Thinking of a 6'10" Sea gypsy to fill a gap. Looking forward to seeing how people are loving theirs or not?
Self Isolation side project 7'0 x20 1/2 x2 3/4 still deciding on fin setup next is a 9'6 nose rider
Love that template ! Great Curves

I doubt the 6'10" sea gypsy would bring much to the party that your 7'2" bonzer doesn't already.
I recently bought a 7' sea gypsy and surfed it a few times. A mate of mine who had always surfed Jim Banks thrusters made for Indo was coaxed into riding a 7'2" custom Miller egg I owned while we were at the Pass about 10 yrs ago. Once he rode it he wouldn't give it back. So I sold it to him. Just the other day he told me the egg was a bit tired and was looking for a replacement. So I had him come by and check out the sea gypsy. Just the ticket he reckoned and so the deal was done. I was stoked to sell him a replacement for his trusty Miller.
For me I have owned a stack of mid lengths and so am not easily impressed. The sea gypsy was an ok board but didn't knock my socks off.

Shame it didn't hit the right notes for you CF, damn nice looking boards, Maybe a few inches shorter would have hit the mark?
You should have a crack at a Webber Diamond around 6'10 or 6'8, set it up with the Webber / Soar fins or if you get one with futures boxes use the Sanctum big twins.
I was actually looking for a Miller SubX or my current Webber before I got the Cjet, and whilst the Cjet was good for the price the Webber has outshone it in shear performance and fun.
Would still like to have a crack on a SubX at some stage or the Cosmic Twin maybe but for now more than happy with the Webber.
So what now? You going back to the Tajen?

Wow! Love the deep double concave, those Bonzer fins look amazing.
All the curves hook up and flow together beautifully.

I've got both my Tajen's which I love with the Webber flex twins in and I've got my new 7'6" custom that I ride the Sanctum flex twins in. So no regrets...spoiled for choice. I'm happy for mate to have the board. Makes it easier for me to choose what to surf too.
On a side note I've always enjoyed using bonzer side runners in 2+1 set ups. This combo worked great yesterday. 2-3' barreling rights that made the board great in the tube. The centre fin is a 6" custom Spitfire fin from Alkali. Last fin experiment was as a single with an Alkali 7' fin similar to a bonzer centre fin which had the board immediately losing control any time I pulled into a barrel.
I remember the great man cobra many years ago saying - Has there ever been a good mid length.
It neither here or there .
Im inclined to think hes still right.
Nothing in this thread makes me think different. Everyones always on the hunt for something else.

That centre fin looks like the ones Shane Horan's is selling from the boot of his car
It's amazing how much difference one fin change can make to a boards performance.
But my real question is why you still out surfing?
And getting awesome rides?
Mostly jealous because I'm in crazy wife lockdown ATM.

Because its good to mix it up, riding one type of board all the time is boring and sometimes conditions dictate what board to ride

Thanks Cuttlefish,
That's the type of feedback i was hoping for. I've got a 6'10" widow maker that pretty well fills the gap, I should just stick with it.

A midlength gets into a wave earlier than a shortboarder, a good midlength can take off deeper than a longboarder and make the drop..... Then it's down to the rider's ability or lack of. My point is there are midlengths and there are midlengths, I learnt this from brother cuttlefish amen

As a recent convert to the love of midlengths, well said sir.
Pretty much sums it up. But I would also suggest the fun factor, or maybe satisfaction factor attached to the flow and style of midlengths.
Much like Longboarding you can actually engage with the wave better rather than lacerating it to pieces.
Something I never really experienced with a shorty.
