Bit late & a bit bleary but I've been celebrating the imminent arrival of the new "baby". I needed an excuse for a couple of beers this arvo (well not really). Here's some early pics. Oi Androomac, if you view this, the board in the background is, I believe, your mates Steve's board, looks good. Not sorry about the pics, I take crap pics on my phone. Hey Crispy, new fridge door, Beautiful plumage don't ya think! Green & purple.
congrats uncle thirsty. Always exciting when a new sled is near.
Is there going to be a fin box in there or you are just getting it as a quad?
Ted, yep big arse to float my big arse
Chrispy, yes 10" (iirc) is going in, give me all possible fin options + fin positioning up & back.
Welcome back Uncle thirsty - congrats on the new stick. Sure has a nice big asse
About that ass :
Rounder rails through the tail, with a bit of thickness, allow for tighter arced turns without speed washing off. As a board turns, the rounder rail in the tail will suck water over the back of the board and pull the rail into the wave. The foam floats and will jump out of the water as the turn ends and speed is maintained. However, in bigger waves where longer turns are necessary, the round rail will skip out. The tight ark turn only works in smaller waves where the rider is not going so fast.”

Thanks dude, looking siiiiiick!!! I'm getting that board shaped for a mate, a mate who has approx 40 boards and yet this same mate constantly wants to surf my SubX he's going to be stooooooooooooked!!!
Speaking of, our old mate Teacake swung by yesterday a grabbed the SubX for a ride, looked like he was having a pretty damn good time on it to me, little b@stard was nailing these siiiiick cheater fives but i'll let him weigh in for his thoughts on the board
Grant seems to be doing a lot of SubX's . I'd have one if I could jump to my feet properly. I'd go the quad and box set up I reckon.
Androo, yeah give 'cake a rev up I'd love to hear a young fellers thoughts on the Subbie (maybe!).
What's ya mate do with 40 boards!! Jeez I've got 5 & I do my head in trying to decide which one to ride.
SMH, yep from my experience the quad + box is "the go".
I've mainly ridden mine as a quad with large A. Simons, B. MR twinnies up front & glass sidebites as rears. C. Harly Inglby quad set. D. Single fin & sidebites & sometimes with a nubster in quad mode. E. Sunny Garcia large thruster set.

you dont need 40 boards to confuse yaself because you have 400 sets of fins to do that
Got that right there Chrispy. Did I mention the couple of sets of glassflex M7 & 5's, those & the above are in FCS1 & I've also got couple a sets of FCS2'S. Do you think I've got it covered? & yeah I get confused easily these days. Also got a set of redx fins from a McT carver I had, gotta sell them though.

I know, pretty sure TK has his head deep in the books this week, I think the Engineering thing is a bit harder for him to master than the board But maybe if we bag him out he'll respond
He's actually a collector, and my neighbor... and a super rad neighbor to have as he loves to surf, loves rad music and him and his wife are my daughters favorite sitters.
Mine is set up as a single fin and goes awesome, this one...
"Ryan Lovelace designed this fin with his mid length v.Bowls boards in mind. Ideal for drawing connected, powerful lines. Happy to cruise, but they really shine when you put some gas into it and get that Volan flexing.Ryan on the fin, “Ride a regular glass fin, then ride one in Volan - the difference is staggering, and when coupled with a good foil, can make quick work of a wave!”Even flex pattern throughout for increased drive."

Uncle, What Red X fins are they?
I might be keen.. I have a gun with Red x and wouldn't mind a back up set.
Sp, the're Redx x-4 thruster set with an extra center fin, p
lus screws
What would you be after for them?
Oh man, always the hard questions!. These have great sentimental value SP, so after a lengthy internal debate (2 sec) I couldn't see myself letting them go, for anything less than a SLAB (that's a carton of beer for the initiated).
Speaking of Millers. I've snaffled this yum yum yellow 6'11" v-skate. It just needs a ride from Daisy hill (near Springwood) to the Sunshine coast if anyone's passing through.
Finished product...Hmm now what fins for the maiden surf. And YES surf prediction is 1' & prob onshore, thankyou Huey for the "new board" hoodoo. damm!!
Haters gonna hate me for saying this, but I can handle if the boards 8 foot but not under,am I in the wrong forum,if soplease guide me too the longboard forum.

When's the wife going away again mate
An updated quiver shot would be great.
Nice board Uncle, hopefully it is offshore early.
Oh!..... Makka there you are, wondered where you were......... YAWN.
Never gone away mate but seriously why post shortboard stuff in here,is there no ears in the shortboard room
I postested for this forum from the very beginning because I'M NOT INTERESTED IN SHORTBOARDS since I was a kid.

Mac, for the first time since joining this forum many years ago, I just used the green thumb for your post.
And I just went back and saw that someone had canceled it
Oh well, at least I tried.

An updated quiver shot....
Is not necessary. I had a 6'8" Miller v skate back in 2004-6 which is all I rode for that 2 years. Came back from OS and discovered Millers as alternative shaper to the standard anorexic board builders of the time. Anyways more than a decade later I thought I'd revisit the shape with some more length and foam to use on decent beachbreak days to give me early entry paddle power.
I recently sold my Pyzel slab since I didn't like its non-existent glide when paddling into waves. It had lots of foam but its narrow nose made it a late take off kind of board. Sure it would handle the drop but I've come to realise my other boards with more width in the nose will get me in early enough to make the drop without having to throw myself over the ledge when taking off.
And so when I paddled out on the Miller yesterday morning I found myself in the same boat (so to speak) as the Pyzel. Here I was taking off with the lip despite its length. No glide in to the wave to be found.
Well bugger that. Paddled in and went back out with trusty DVS 6' wasp quad fish and even paddling out I could feel all the foam in its widepoint under my chest and the "little" bugger paddled like a canoe.
Take offs on the same sized waves as I'd just struggled with on the v skate were now so easy as the board planed early and let me get to my feet in plenty of time to stick the drops.
Bye bye v skate...straight into the used board rack at the front of Beachbeat at Alex for you.
Sorry for the hijack Uncle. Just interesting how one moves on and sometimes the past is better off left un-revisted... (is that even a word?).
Would love to have a go on a sub x.
Cuttle, yeah going the "I'll try that design again" route can be interesting especially when buying boards off ebay that you can't get your mitts on & feel up first particularly when they've been shaped for someone else who prob had different surfing level than you & who surfs different breaks. I've tried it a couple of times & been surprised as well as disappointed, but if didn't cost me anything as I bludged the boards, currently got a (mates) McT (8'1") carver I had 8/9 yrs ago & at the time time I loved it but now...mmm dunno, used to riding diff shapes & lengths I suppose. This board is pristine its been in a rack most of its life & hardly surfed.
Macca..does volume settle the nerves. I reckon this subbie would have the same volume as some longboards. (C'mon give us a smile!!)

Looks awesome bud, enjoy!!!

Lets be fair Mac, the vast majority of content on this page is not about "longboarding"
Really, its Longboarders starting threads about stuff they're into and feel that others also might be... If the thread generates no interest it disappears... much like Roy , So by virtue of the fact that this thread lives on means that there are plenty of Longboarders that like these boards or at least the ideology behind it...
And at the end of the day mate, if your not into it then just don't read it... which is why I only read about three threads on this forum
Anyway... back to surfing... I LOVE my SubX
