Swell starting to show here but expecting bigger waves to come. Went and checked it this morning but the tide was right up it so went home and grabbed the belly board and fins and surfed a reef break that I hadn't been out in for ages. Picked off a dozen or so and came in as the crowd started to show up. I was happy with that

I actually found an old red/blue surf mat in the shed today that still holds air. Would be an interesting excercise to get out on it for a few waves.

Here it is . It doesn't look much but it's a lot of fun. Great big concave through it and two side biters.

I don't ride it much but I always seem to have a good time on it. It's easy to transport , can be ridden in tiny waves or big waves and easy to duck dive. I had a memorable surf on it at Green Island one day. It took me forever to paddle out on it but it was pretty big with most people sitting wide. I took a few on the head but was able to pick off the medium size waves way inside that stood up all the way down the reef.
I've got a good mat as well but it's a bit tricky riding it. Need to spend more time on it.

Are mats still a thing??

Seems like so long ago. Brings back memories of the big rashes (nipples) that I used to get from those styro surf boards or the late 70's boogie boards that had lost their outer covers but they were all we had to catch shore breaks that filled every orifice with sand. Ahhh the memories.

Get on to Krypt mats website. They out of Ballina I think and theres footage of guys riding them at Lennox and Broken Head flying through sections. The materials are much different. Mat riding is popular in the states and theres some good footage of George Greenough on youtube.

Matt's are so hard to ride ,and I won't even start in about the ease of paddling when you do get a wave its a freaking rocket ship

Does yiur belly board have any sort of padding on the deck smh,or is it a sausage softener of a ride ?

I am really intrested in them . Oh ,what and when do use the fins and what sort when you do,also dims please

And a few more pics

No worries Chrispy I'll try and up load some more pics . The deck is waxed. The back fins stop the side slip . I guess a half decent board builder could knock one up for you . The board itself is 4'8 . No ther dims written on it but I reckon it's 22' wide and 2 3/4 thick. When paddling for a wave I paddle and kick . The fins I got are Voit duck feet and they're soft and supple and I don't tend to cramp with them. They're pretty popular with lifeguards over in the states .

Are these the same as kneeboards?
Quite a few interesting ones in the sold section of Von Weirdos site

http://www.vonweirdos.com/sold/Scott-Dillon-Spoon-Kneeboard_982.htm

Would love to have got this one

www.vonweirdos.com/sold/George-Greenough-Design-Sky-Twin-Fin-Kneeboard_1032.htm

No Nozza they're shorter . A standard kneelo would probably be too big .
