Is it possible to attach a leash to the watch so if it breaks you don't lose it?

Has saved the watch twice so far

Hi,

A little off topic but my GW-60 worked fine until I let her stand off a couple of days with the battery flat.

Now the watch mode and menu option works properly, but I cannot connect the GPS anymore, when I press the GPS button the screen turn off and the watch restart.
Tried many times and always the same thing, watch restart and no GPS start.

I updated the firmware to the latest (it updated without issues). But it is still the same.

The same problem also happens when I try to connect to GWS UTIL, clicking connect turn off the watch and restart it. The text display says "Device in MTN mode." (no idea what that mean) and the watch doesn't connect.

Have any of you experienced the same issue?

The GW60 is the only GPS watch that is approved for use in GPSTC & GPSSS

Bedz mtn mode is correct. So the watch is talking to the computer Ok but it seems the whole gps facility is down. you've done a firmware update. So I think it's time to ask locosys for help

Bugger now i have my doubts. The watch has two communication modes one for Windows and the utility. The other for non windows users, but now I'm not certain which is which. I think mtn is for Windows. But I'm away from home and can't check. Have a read of the manual

Yes MTN mode is when talking to Windows PCs
When I connect to the GW60 Utility I get the following message..

Device changed, com ports rescaned!!!USB device detected...

Thanks for your input guys.

Noted for the NTM mode, what happens is that since the watch is restarting during the connection attempt it become disconnected for a moment and the "check the COM port" error windows appear. The full message is as below:

"Device changed, com ports rescaned!!!
Device in MTN mode.
Detecting device...
Device changed, com ports rescaned!!!
Device changed, com ports rescaned!!!
Device sync failed!
Device disconnected.
Device changed, com ports rescaned!!!"

As you've suggested I raised the question to the re-seller who will probably relay my message to Locosys.

For Decrepit, I can also connect via MSC, thru Windows PC (don't know if this is of any use). But yet still have no GPS working or COM port connection.

Sounds like a dodgy connection try cleaning the contacts. Did you have trouble with the firmware update?

Just had a thought, some people are having trouble with the gps button not making a connection could be one of your problems.

Just following up, my band has now split in 4 separate places, 3 only half was across but todays split was from side to side. Looks like when they start to fail it is all over. The backing strap I have glued on the back is all that keeps it all together now (super glue bonds the best to the TPU plastic backing strap and has stuck for a couple of months now without letting go).

The only way my watch turns on is if I connect to charger cable first . Only needs a minute and works fine . Is always % 100 charged . I think it wants to be loved or something . If someone could make a simple working non snapping version ...... .
I would think most purchasers just want top speed , 2 sec , 100 m , 1 km ect ??? . And don't want to download .
A simple device .
The serious punters definitely need something better .

Have you tried leaving it on GPS and let it run flat.
Sometimes a complete power down of battery seems to bring some back to normal.

If you haven't switched it for 10 days it turns off. all watched do this, and he to be plugged into power to turn then on. If you've used in less than 10 days it should turn on with the mode button.

I've had to plug the watch into the car USB a lot lately, it's been a pretty slow start to the season.

Are we still collecting broken-band serial numbers ?

At some point in the past I did review of the watch, and I somewhat compared to a dive watch: www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Windsurfing/Gps/Locosys-GW-60?page=17#2077490

While the watch/gps is good, the band has not held up like a dive-watch-band... a watch band is a "solved problem" so it really shouldn't break [ vs an unsolved problem of a very accurate and reliable waterproof GPS ].

Super glue is your new friend. Make sure you put a leash on it because it will happen to the other side too.

If it's under a year since you bought it, they have a reconditioned replacement thing, at a cost but. You'll need to contact them for details.
Also if you could send the serial number to Dylan, he's keeping track, because it's looking like a bad batch scenario.

Can you take the bands off and use the watch in a bag like we do with our other GPSs?

No reason why not, just remember, the antenna is under the "GPS" sign, cut the band several mm away from that.

I've done 145 sessions this year so far, missed a month in April when I broke a Rib. How long do you think a GW60 would last for me Decrepit?
And under Australian Consumer law if its under warranty I should only have to take it back to the Dealer to get an immediate replacement or if they cannot, supply a refund. I wear a $25 dollar watch bought from woolworths only when out sailing, works perfect for up to 3 years until battery goes flat then I by a new one, never broken a band!!!!!!!

That's hard to say, hopefully 10 years or more.

Agreed the warranty thing is very disappointing, but that's between sailor and shop, leave me out of it.

To run a fun competition using only a poor quality device sold by a company that doesn't honour any warranty or Australian law and isn't even available for sale would seem rediculous to some. But hey I guess we all think in different ways. What's it called when people become super focused on one specific thing lose sight of there original objective and don't step back and look at the whole picture?

Well said Simon, the GW60 is just a big FAT lemon. and for the company that make them and do not give a warranty, well what can I say.
