Some manufacturers like JP and Fanatic have cut the stubby tomo style design from their line ups in favour of more standard shapes .Did this style never work, just a passing fad or to much of a specialised design to be economically viable. The magazine reviews always seemed favourable ,but I don,t trust those.I was thinking of picking up a cheap second hand one for onshore metro mush the question is do they achieve a quick clewed out bottom to top turn combo .In Perth you only get one shot on the beachies .What do you gain over a standard wave shape.
Sailed several sizes of Fanatic Stubby's: 88 and 82 (a bit too small for my 85kg) and a mate uses the 76 and 95 freewave Stubby.
all very good shapes for onshore and sloppy waves and never understood why Fanatic ditched the Stubby for the suposedly more adaptable Maba. I had the Mamba 94 and never got on with that board.
if you can get hold of a Fanatic Stubby and don't care about fashion: go for it.
I do think the Stubby better suits less tall riders, I m 195 cm and find a longer water line in more comfortable for me.
