I recently got my silk foils and need to pack them for travel. Obviously the one piece design isn't ideal for travel and I found they won't fit into my board bag. I ordered many different bags off of Amazon to see what fit the best. Most of them were for art supplies (easels) but I found this one fit the best without being overly huge (size XL). The easel bags were too large and the added space wasn't very functional.
DoYiKe Extra Large Storage Duffle Bag with Zippers and Handles, Big Foldable Duffle Bag for Travel-38x23x11Inch a.co/d/7SKhQKs
Pros: it's light, inexpensive and fits the foils, a wing or other gear without being overly huge. cons: it's very basic, not padded, questionable durability.
should do the trick with minimal investment.
I actually looked into crossbow bags which are perfect shape and padded but the span wasn't big enough. Cornhole bags weren't quite wide enough.
I liked your idea of a crossbow bag.
Found this one that should work.......until they bring out a 1250

Just tried my friend's Silk 850. I used Code 850S with 150AR tail and my friends rode Silk 850 I don't ask which tail. We swapped our boards on the water (winging in relatively flat gusty offshore 10-18kt) and rode them for about 20 minutes.
These two foils feel very similar. Very maneuverable, has good glide, and has a slippery feel but is somehow pitch stable and easy to ride. Have a wide speed range and a good low end for its size. My friend has a similar opinion but he thinks AFS has a little bit more glide. I think it might be the case but really can't tell for a short test. I think Code might have an edge on the low end but not much. Need to test that in light wind and with the same board.
I also have North SF1080. That one is an easier foil to use but the Code S and AFS Silk are on another level performance-wise. The North SF is much slower.
The AFS is whistling a bit. The Code doesn't make any noise.
In short, AFS Silk is an excellent foil. I enjoy this one much more than the AFS Performer and AFS Pure for winging.
If you haven't tried a mast shim. Nose up. Fat part in front. Give it a go. Been loving it on the Dragonfly with 1050. Opens up some super nice surfy feels on top of what is an amazing surf foil already. I'm using the PPC 1 degree shim. Like to try a 2.
Guess it's depending on the board, as for the Silk I never had the Need to shim anything. So perfect balanced, pushing the Silk 850 to almost 50 km/h without big efforts last week. Really surprised for a super turny wavefoil.

Is it really fair to compare to the North SF1080? It's a much bigger wing.

Indeed.
I'd very much like to hear from someone who has had the chance to compare:
the code/afs 850(s) with the North MaV2 850 using the 178 tail.
I can compare the code and North 850 foils. The MAV2 is faster when powered up and wins at top speed and rapid direction changes. The code glides much better and flows through tacks and gybes very smoothly in comparison. The code seems to be better able to dig itself out of a hole without dropping out, more like the North SF series in that regard.
I can compare code 850s w/152 tail vs afs silk 850 w/132 tail.
I felt like the code was really fast when it was well positioned in the power zone of the swell and could pump quite well but felt restricted in the turns. The Silk is harder to pump/glide but seemed to do better in general swell positioning and was worlds better in the turns.
Yep,
I only rode the large sk8s when I tried them and I have heard that the small sizes are actually amazing. However, the sk8 in sizes 850-1150 felt quite tracky, like they had to be clicked into and out of turns which I didn't like. They also seemed to lack low end for their sizes. Also worth noting is that there's so many tail variations on the sk8s that it's hard to do a comprehensive demo on them. I think f-one calls it the hm14 mast? That's a nice choice for these.
The silks don't have amazing low end or anything but all three sizes are better than the sk8s that I experienced. The turns on the silks are incredibly smooth, on demand and confidence inspiring like no other foil I've ridden. I prefer them all on the 75cm UHM mast but the 80cm is really good too with just a touch more stiffness but a little less maneuverable and a sliver slower.
