5m weighs 2.7 kg. Nothing crazy, but on the heavier side of average. Seems like the handles and track system offset a lot of the weight savings from the materials (obviously the materials benefit other aspects of the wing too...).
I think one of the advantages of this removable handle system may be one set of handles for multiple wings?
depends how easy the removal of them is I guess??
only time will tell.
watching with interest though,
it looks good to me
Feels like this is 2024 Mode. Interesting that they using same old handles here. Profile of the wing is flatter compared with Mode 2023 on the left.
That's the Mode Pro Ultra. Looks higher aspect than the Mode Pro which I would welcome. Looks like a nice wing!!

For a premium wing that's heavy.

Agree but it's not really priced premium. An aluula OR glide is 1.8 kg. A 7m CWC is 2.7 and feels kind of portly. Flux isn't light. But it's lighter than this.
If you get the boom (currently unavailable) will you be forced to remove it before you pack your wing away?

Slick SLS 5.0 is 2.05 kg without a boom, which is another 300 grams. That's a 2 year old model.

That's lighter than the current 5m Nova V3 at 2.93kg and has the added track etc

There are other metrics besides just weight that are just as important to consider, like long term durability, balance in hand when riding, both light wind and high wind performance, how well they trailer etc. The Nova Pro wings are very well balanced and feel very lightweight when riding and through transitions. The Nova Pro has a heavier yet much stiffer more durable canopy in the rear 2/3 of the wing which helps give it both stability and reduced bagging out over time. The Nova Pro has a super rigid efficient center section and strut made from N-Weave45. It then features Dacron wing tips which give both a more forgiving feel in gusty conditions and easier freestyle landings with super quick recovery due to carbon Udi tapes in the tips. 2x 500mm ShiftLock handles plus the flexible track are in fact lighter than 2x 500mm GripLock handles (featured on the Nova V2/V3). From there ShiftLock allows you to save even more weight by down sizing the handles to 400 or 250mm or choosing the lightest 1100mm Boom option instead. North could design the lightest wing that would work really well for a few sessions before bagging out and having very little resale value. Instead they choose to develop performance wings that will last as long as possible.
Really enjoyed listening to this. I expected 90 mins sales talk..! Instead I got 90 mins of in-depth understanding of how and why the North Pro and shift lock were developed. These guys are super passionate and pursuing every detail to achieve perfection. I was initially skeptical.. not anymore. Hope the price drops in 2025 haha
The wing weight is 2.7kg without handles ... if you add two handles it moves on up to over 3.1kg for a 5m.
I'm happy to be opened minded and try the wing and see how it performs - but 3.1kg+ for a 5m, I think that is probably the heaviest 5m on the market - it's concerning to say the least.
They mentioned there's interest in licensing the system. But as far as I can tell, it would only work with straight struts.

And yet new North sails are probably the lightest on the market. In response to Severne's light sails, other brand reps would say "we've been down that path before and your pay with durability... it doesn't matter how much it weighs, it matters how it feels on the water". Maybe this applies even more to winging.

As I said I'm open minded on it, currently I use DuoTone V4 Units, they also aren't the lightest wings on the market and the durability so far has been exceptional.
I don't mind a little extra weight for durability. I've recently flown the new Strike V4, it's lighter and it's also less durable as was the Strike V3 before it. I don't like how fragile they are despite them being lighter.
My concern only lies in the question of when is it too much weight and you really start to feel it trying to ride downwind on some swell and the wing just won't fly and is hanging in front of you. Where is the tipping point where weight and durability really start to impact performance - I guess I'll find out as I will be trying the Nova Pro in the not too distant future.
I'm glad the Nova Pro came out, it meant I was able to get a good deal on a 6m Nova v3. The pro looks great and I particularly like being able to go with a boom (still not available), but I'll wait and see how durable the clamp on system is before I pull the trigger
Interested in experiences with the 6m Nova Pro.
Anyone has one already and how do they compare to other 6m?

Ha ha, me too! Just picked at 23/24 Nova 2.9 for 35% off from my local shop.
I had 2 sessions on the Nova Pro, a 5m and a 4.2 (both with boom) and although I was really looking forward to it it wasnt my cup of tea.
The 5m felt on flatwater big. To me it had the handling and feel of a 6m instead of a 5. the low end grunt was good but the 5m didnt feel really efficient.
Tacking etc was all fine with it, but more a 6m feel. My 22 Duotone Dlab5.5 and Ozone Flux 5m feel lighter in the hand, way more nimble effective and slippery through the wind. Personally I don,t think that is just the weight, but more a profile, personal prefference thing.
The 4.2 was in the waves, and that one felt better, more maneuvrable and efficient but still not on par with my flux4.3. It was the 2th sess of the owner with his Nova Pro while my Flux is from last summer ...and still feeling better. He ordered a Flux straight away after trying mine.
On both I really did like the boom (as a hard handle fan!), but I don,t see anyone swapping a boom between wings often like you do with an Duotone Slick.
Jeroensurf ; I was expecting it to be a bit heavier. For now I only ordered the 4.2 with boom. I'll keep my nova 5m for light wind. Did you use the previous nova's also? Flux is a completely different wing, a tacking machine.
I've been trying an RRD Evo gold. And it was horrible. Out of balance and pulling way too much on the front hand.
What is the low end of the Nova Pro 5 or Nova 5.0 2024 compared to for example a Strike 5.5 v2 or Duotone Unit 5.5 or any known others around the same size?
>>To me it had the handling and feel of a 6m instead of a 5. the low end grunt was good but the 5m didnt feel really efficient.
A Nova Pro 5 feels like a 6, does not mean the power of a 6, but the handling of a bigger wing. Low end grunt, but not a replacement of a bigger wing from another brand?
Been riding my Nova pro 4.2 last week. I'm really happy with it. I was using the nova' 23 before this one. The nova pro is so much better. Direct and very stable. The boom is awesome and rock solid. Happy.
