Looks to me like the Pocket Wing is more of a cross between a kite and a mini parachute ie won't go upwind , maybe go cross wind but definitely more designed as a downwind specific item. Too scooped to go upwind, not aerodynamic enough.
I think the concept of a Wingfoil upwind - deflate/ pack up into backpack - pocket wing back downwind is definitely doable though, keen to try this on my mini DW 105L board
Yes on designer Sam Nokoi's instagram he did say it doesn't go upwind properly but does go well on a reach. Would be great for downwind runs if you could get up straight off the beach and not have to paddle out into the bumps but seems like a one way only thing. I am wondering why they didn't make a more aerodynamic version with more of a foil kite style leading edge then possibly it could go upwind properly.

Market's getting flooded. Maybe the hype is real .
so two now (unless I'm missing something), not exactly a flooded market. the BRM is a LOT more expensive at $900 for a 1.8m, $1200 for a 6M. Maybe that's justified if this one can go upwind. Hope BRM puts some videos up of this thing in action as it's hard to envision how this deploys/flies/retracts with just words.
There is a video of the BRM parawing in action on the first page of BRM's website (as a new member I can't post links.). The rider is probably Greg, so if it seems easy it might be his talent and experience speaking.
The system seems really polished with a bar oriented as a normal wing handle and a harness made to store the wing.
Greg mentions that the parawing goes upwind similarly to a classic wing of the same size.
Interesting that the BRM uses a bar and can be used with a harness to go upwind, US$900
