Great pics Creek your definitely a inspiration to us all buddy keep exploring, get that foot better soon mate
You should go up to Arrifana: goo.gl/maps/Erck6d9oE8G2
It should be aprox. 40 to 50 klms north from sagres.
It is a protected bay from the northerly winds you will see in the next couple of days.
You can have a look at: beachcam.meo.pt/livecams/arrifana/
Thanks ... been watching the forecasts for Arrifana, it looks like a good spot
Explored that way, but not that far yet!
I went to walk the beach next to my house, that has been totally flat every day.
Holy crap... there were waves!
Took some pics cuz there was a SUP out
Ran home to get my stuff.... but by the time I got back, the tide had filled in a little too much.
Small, but looks like a good break when the swell actually gets in there!

For that spot to work you need a rather unusual swell !! But when it's working it's great.

my kinda of right
Yea, I got back in the water yesterday!
I told myself I was laying low for another week.... then I realized the wind was perfect for a right point I had been stalking.
As always, it was much bigger than the GoPro shows.... (pics in video show actual size)
plus I put the camera on an experimental new angle... but it restricted the view.
My first go at that beach, so I didn't want to add the drama of the SoloShot to the experience.
I had no idea what to expect from the locals at this break....
being the only SUP... and wearing the Kook Hat Cam was enough for one day ;D
I gotta say... it's pretty intimidating to paddle out around here....
the whole arena is so massive and overpowering.... then add solid swell with sneaker sets
The amount of water moving out in the rip that I paddled out in, was creating a surprising amount of cross chop in general.
I played it on the cautious side and didn't fade back too far on my waves.
It was pretty soft on the shoulders of outside sets, but guys were getting barreled when they set up the inside correctly.
I was happy just to feel the place out and avoid any more injuries.
It always feels good when you push your comfort zone....... and today was a good day
Thanks Rick!
Your video made my day. (I Hope to get out tomorrow in the small surf that is predicted.) You are such a wonderful ambassador for sup surfing.......there really should be such a position. Your video demonstrated clearly how to kick a board over a sizeable wave. Beautiful countryside, those dairy cows looked healthy and well fed. Hope you got the tire changed without incident and home in time for a much deserved dinner.
Cheers
Bob
Yep - "back in the game" you are STC!!!
Hooking in to some beauties, throwing the 9'4 around and cruising home through the cows with the sun out - dude!!!
The simple things in life are often the best eh.
What a great vid - yeeew!!!
Way to go Rick best thread in a long time , thanks for all the effort you big grom.
Surfed my 9'1" Creek this morning with the VP 6's fins in some size at the local secret break...
Jeez I love that board!
Thanks LeeD,
Tarifa looks interesting, does he SUP surf or paddle?
is that THE Goya's house?!?
Thanks Kami and MangoDingo it's almost recovered, now that the wind has gone bad
I have been hiking and biking to keep my ankle loose and strong
Plus I am using the time to explore some breaks around the region.
I am sure to you Aussies, walkabout in the outback is everyday stuff
so Old man lost, is nothing new.
I don't use the GPS away from my wifi,
so I have to memorize the directions.
Goole map routing tried to kill me the other day
If you're already doing this, please ignore, but you can download Google maps of an area over wifi for use offline if you want. You won't see exactly where you are (no GPS) but you won't have to memorise directions. I use this when traveling O/S to minimise roaming costs.
btw, photos and vids look great! Keep them coming. Some of the pics look like they could have been shot in Aus. Very cool

donut4u.... thanks for the info!
I ended up with maps.me
Downloadable maps that give precise, voice prompted, step by step navigation.
Same as full blown Google Maps.... but no cell service requirement.
I use an older Iphone that I don't even have a SIM card in.... so no mobil provider can figure a way to charge me

nice one!
Big winds for many days.
Big waves for a few of them.
I ranged around a lot for the past few days, finding out what different breaks do on these swells.
Found some good surf today, but when I went to turn on my "Kook Hat Cam" ... the battery was dead
It was good to get back in the water.... hopefully I'll be able to get some video in the next few days.
Meanwhile... I love these dirt track adventures, I always find such beautiful places and some interesting stuff.
Pics.... I guess they are better than a blank page
I went in search of breaks and passed some beautiful country.
I followed the Yellow Brick Road.......
and found pigs playing footie
At my local break.... it was a bit bigger
I saw 1 ride in an hour of watching
I finally toured the Fort down the street from my apartment.
I drove endlessly to find these gems..... pics of my wandering, below.
Really good day of back roading, on the way to some breaks!
I was so hungry, I started seeing things
ahhhhh.... late day Brie, in Brie country
I finally found the SUP crew in Portugal!
What a great crew... and there are lots of them.
I got a message on my youtube channel video about Portugal.
Two of my subscribers heard I was heading back from Nazare' and invited me to visit their home break.
I did not take a board to Nazare', because I would have no place to keep it.
Cisco said "no worries, we have plenty of boards"
Cisco and Isabel are totally awesome, they showed me first class hospitality and friendship.
It feels like I have always known them.
The break felt like home, SUPs own this break
Been a while since I posted on my thread..... lots of wind and big swells for a month meant that I had to travel to surf.
Tiago Silva invited me up to the Mauka Lodge in Ericeria to check out his place.... really sweet set-up he has, I will put together a vid at some point. He was super nice and gave me a through tour of a large area of breaks.
Cisco invited me back up to Cascais, where I managed a solo session in some managable waves, then got to meet a lot more locals from the Lisbon area!
This is another look at the nice SUP set-up they have.
