Well despite arriving to a glassy Brisbane Waters on Saturday, the breeze filled in for a great afternoon of light wind sailing. Almost prefect for my Lechner and Lyndon's Serenity.
Thanks for the ride of your Serenity, it really is a light wind weapon!!! It simply glides through the water like nothing I've ridden before! Thinking it'd be quite a handful off the breeze in 12 knots or more though!
Hello from Croatia , could have used my phantom over here, lovely afternoon breezes and miles of water. Will be back in Aus in. 3 weeks time and will be able to join you all on Brisbane Waters,
regurds
Pete
Hi All,
So my plans to go snow skiing this weekend have been cancelled due to the poor weather forecast in Perisher. As a result I'll be down at Gosford Sailing Club around 1-1:30pm tomorrow if anyone would like to join me.
John.
Was hopeful of getting out this afternoon but If it stays as forecasted in the 25-30 knots ? May be better staying home and not breaking something or myself
Hi all, Gosford Sailing Club has agreed to trial a Sailboard fleet starting this coming Saturday.
I'm aiming to be at the club from 12-12:30pm.
It would be great to have at least 3-4 starters to show our interest.
Great work John!
Good luck to all this Saturday. I'm looking forward to sailing with you later in the season.
So I'm pleased to report that the return of Sailboards to the Gosford Sailing Club fleet did go ahead yesterday.
We had three starters, Lyndon, Peter and myself. Everything ran smoothly on a beautiful blue sky sunny day (a few more knots of breeze would have been nice).
No racing next Saturday due to the the 2nd heat of the Raceboard series at Hawks Nest, so the next days racing at Gosford Sailing Club will be Saturday 8-Oct-2016. Racing commences at approx 2pm. I'll be at the club from 1pm.
It would be great to see a few more boards & all are welcome to join in.
Race 2 with Gosford Sailing Club was a superb afternoon with strong Southerly providing us a great ride with some decent short steep chop to contend with. Unfortunately just the two of us racing on Saturday (Pete S rigged an 8.5 and I had a 7.8).
Thankfully Pete managed to avoid a close encounter with a couple of Lasers and an Etchell.
Heat 3 of the NSW Summer Raceboard series is at DAC (Dobroyd Aquatic Club - Rodd Park, Henley Marine Dr, Rodd Point NSW 2046) on Saturday 15-Oct-2016. So no Racing at Gosford that day.
Next Race at Gosford will be Saturday 22-Oct-2016. Briefing at 1pm in Clubhouse, I'll aim to be there around 12:30pm. Anyone interested is more than welcome to join us.
Just a reminder that we will be racing at Gosford Sailing club Saturday 22-Oct-2016. Briefing at 1pm in Clubhouse, I'll aim to be there around 12:30pm.
John.
AUS814 and I are headed to Heat 4 of the Summer Raceboard Series at Ramesgate Carpark, Botany Bay, Sydney: (The Grand Parade, Opposite Culver St **only accessible driving southbound) on Saturday 29-Oct-2016.
As such there is unlikely to be any racing at Gosford Sailing Club for Sailboards (however if anyone is interested Peter Walsh will be doing the standard briefing at 1pm in the room downstairs at the back of the club. Racing for the sailing fleet commences at 2pm and Sailboards are always last to start). I'd suggest being at the club by 12:30pm and make yourself aware to Peter Walsh.
I'll be back at Gosford Sailing Club for racing on Saturday 5-Nov.
John.
Just had a free sail on the RSD2. First time fully in the back straps for me. Felt very balanced. Not really windy enough to go deep off the wind like that. Learning more about the board each time. The best thing is the way its length and shape smooth out the waves. Its a real magic carpet ride, even if its not as fast as the batwings??. Think Ive picked up a couple of other things worth trying out. Overall I suspect the biggest problem is not the board but the lack of practice this rider generally has. Hope the races went well for the more committed members of our group.
Hi all,
Ok so Racing at Gosford Sailing Club tomorrow. Briefing is in the bar room under the club at the rear at 1pm. First race after 2pm. Depending on the breeze it can take a while to get to the start line though.
I'll aim to be at the club around 12:30pm. Hope to see you all there.
John.
Hey John...Great job getting windsurf racing happening. I just heard some kids have bought BIC Techno's, so they can start racing up there?
Always a good sign....
It would be great to see more of the younger sailors blasting around andnhaving fun on the Technos. The Optis and sabots certainly have good numbers on the water but you cannot help thinking how much more fun they potentially could have on the Techno.Just
Watched some of the Techno worlds footage from Lake Garda, ? Close, to 400 competitors
485 competitors at the BOC Techno worlds (nobody from OZ, but we are working on that never happening again)...
BIC techno is the 3rd largest sailing class in the world (behind Laser and Opti"s)....
Windsurfing should be huge at club level and that is the goal...Keep up the good work man...
Excellent to hear that Brett, I look forward to meeting up with the BIC Techno guys and happy to assist them with any general skills or racing knowledge. As you know practice is the best thing for improvement, especially if there's someone just a little quicker than you to race with. I spent a large amount of my youth years racing at club level at Gosford and it's a great way to build your skills to progress to the State, National or even the International stage. Hopefully we'll be able to build on the small base numbers we currently have at Gosford to a regular fleet of 10-20.
Racing on again today at Gosford Sailing Club. Briefing is at 1pm in the bar at the back, beneath the clubhouse. First race approx 2-2:30pm.
Last weekend before the World Raceboards, so last chance for training.
See you all there.
So with only 5 days to go before the 2016 World Raceboard Titles at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, Manly Brisbane, Australia (20-25 November 2016), if anyone would like to follow the results you can get to them from the following Even web link (then click on the results menu).

Here's a fantastic video posted by one of the Moth sailors from RQYS using a drone, This video is of the final Race (race 15) of the Open Raceboards which was held in absolutely perfect conditions, the check out the action at the bottom gate marks at around the 2:00 minute mark. I'm the board in the top right hand side of frame in the very final clip of the video.
